KINDY KOOKABURRAS

The Kindy studio is always a buzz with conversation and active participation. It includes Pre Kindy(3-4yrs) and Kindy (4-5yrs), with  programs which focus on age appropriate growth and development.  We have Reema a Bachelor Degree Early Childhood Teacher who plans and implements the curriculum as well as Leanne, the centre Director, who has many years of experience as an Early Childhood Teacher to oversee and assist with the programming and room set ups.   Educating the 'Whole Child'  and learning through play  guided by the Reggio Emilia Approach is central to her personal teaching philosophy and is an integral part of the environment and experiences.  A huge focus is placed on early Literacy & Numeracy through both planned and spontaneous play based experiences which stimulate and foster the heightened curiosity at this stage.   

Music and Movement for this age group provides alternative opportunities for children to express themselves, helps cultivate communication skills as well as creativity,  imagination,  physical development and socio/emotional skills so are intertwined throughout the daily program. The environment is evidently the 'Third teacher' in the Kindy studio as the beautiful and inspiring learning spaces which are set up each week and are centred around each child's abilities, interests, cultures and developmental needs. All our educators are trained to encourage  curiosity, enthusiasm and competence through exploration and discovery. Children are provided with opportunities to learn respect for others while learning how to problem solve and build confidence within social groups.

Language and communication skills are encouraged through our project-based approach learning, morning meetings, language pal project, dramatic play spaces and provocations which are set out for the children to engage in. Literacy and Numeracy learning occurs spontaneously through play however these skills are further extended upon through daily play-based group and individual planned experiences and purposeful provocations. The routine is flexible yet also predictable as this provides a sense of security and familiarity each day to ensure children feel safe and secure.

Pre Kindy and Kindy programs are thoughtfully planned according to appropriate levels of development of the children in the Preschool room. Children who will be attending formal schooling will be prepared for a smooth transition by encouraging them to take responsibility for their belongings, learning how to take care of themselves and how to communicate their needs effectively.
